Hola!

A new webhost, and a rebirth of my blog. I’ll try to keep this post short. A while ago I decided to restart my blog – and set up WordPress and it pretty much looked like this. Unfortunately, I never got round to posting anything.

In the past month or so, I’ve moved away from VPS.net for various reasons – one of the two main reasons being that I had to keep contacting them to bring back up my servers when they were rebooted (or fell over and needed rebooting). Looking around their forums I didn’t seem to be the only one in this position and it’s something that really should’ve been resolved a while ago.

The second main reason, however, was that no matter what I tried (various OS’s, lots of different configs), I seemed to keep hitting a brick wall when using WordPress to upload media on their VPS offerings. Using WordPress a lot, this was a bit of a killer for me. The same issues didn’t occur on their new cloud hosting plans though – albeit it’s one account per WordPress install (there are ways around this, but I personally like account separation).

That said, VPS.net were very quick to respond to support requests – and overall did offer great services at some great prices. You could do worse than take a look at them if you’re in need of hosting. However, for me I wanted to see what else was out there. I wanted something similar to VPS.net in that I wanted cloud-based Virtual Private Servers. Looking around, a lot of people had a lot of good things to say about Linode, so have decided to give them a go.

I’m still in the process of moving everything across to Linode – but so far I’m very impressed. Things are a bit more “hands-on”, so they’re aimed at a slightly more technical market than VPS.net - but being a techie that suits me.

Anyway I’ve rambled enough and I’ll give more on my opinions of Linode once I’ve been using them for a few weeks. Long story short, as I’ve re-setup my blog due to moving hosting provider, I’ll be posting regularly again.

Have you used VPS.net or Linode before? If so I’d love to know your thoughts on either of them and would really appreciate it if you left me a comment in the box on the right…

Oh well… I didn’t keep this post as short as I’d planned… Please check back soon though!

  • Love the new site layout mate. would love to know how you get on with Linode, will check back regularly.
